Chapter 18

Dylan

Her room was above mine and most of the time I could hear her walking around, talking to Georgie, to Tilly. I also overheard her talking to her aunt about a suppressant she was working on.

Though there was nothing unusual about that, Georgie and Tilly’s mum was a scientist. She worked on heat suppressants and de-scenting products for omegas. Word was none of the suppressants worked that well, but when the company was owned by alphas, I doubted there was any real suppressant allowed on the market, especially one that would totally hide an omega from the outside world.

I could also hear when she had her shower in the morning. She sang sometimes, and it was sweet to hear because Blair was as deep as the ocean and it made me smile that she could sometimes let herself go.

She was relaxing around us, which was perfect.

But it didn’t stop the pain of knowing her father wanted her with someone else. Worse, she wasn’t fighting it.

It was so much harder now. Her presence was overwhelming and knowing she was so close to be mine, but one day if we didn’t do this right, we would lose forever her and that was a hard thing to reconcile. I always had the thought we’d be together no matter what, but half of me wished Blair had gone to another university after all.

The other half... that half wanted her, regardless of the cost.

I laid back on my bed facing the ceiling as I listened to her having her evening shower. This was a quick one. No washing of her hair before going to bed. Next, she would go to the kitchen and grab a bottle of water, she would say goodnight to everyone, and then she’d read before she went to sleep.

Sometimes she read in the garden when the weather was nice.

She was all I could think about every day. Like her stalker, I followed her. I sought her out at university. I didn’t know how I would have coped if she went to study somewhere else. Maybe I would have got over her. Maybe not. Most of the time, it felt like I couldn’t breathe if I hadn’t seen her for a short time.

Everything was about her.

Blair.

I laid in my bed and waited.

Her footsteps stopped outside my door and I silently begged her to knock and come in. She didn’t. Her conscience wrestled with her. The thumps of her feet on the carpet sounded again down the next flight of stairs.

I pushed off the bed and followed her downstairs.

“My father isn’t happy I’ve asked for a pack,” she said, dragging a stool from the island.

“That’s natural,” Nico said. “A lone alpha wouldn’t admit that an omega needs anything more. Admitting an omega is superior in bed and needed more than an alpha.” He laughed and shook his head.

“I could keep you satisfied,” Jacob said with a wink.

Blair burst out laughing. She turned and her eye caught mine. “We need to stop talking about sex and my father in the same conversation.
